"Who I Honor" Process 3
This week, I began experimenting with the material: plates, tile adhesive, and grout. I practiced the tiling process on an extra piece of wood. At first, I didn't think the broken plate parts would fit in together nicely. Each one was oddly shaped and jagged. But to my surprise, it really didn't come out that badly. Currently, I am waiting for the grout to dry…it takes 24 hours.
Some things I learned about the experiment:
- Tile adhesive covers the board so no visible outline to place plates
- The right way of smoothing tile adhesive
- Grouting angular shapes work better with rubber spatula
- Use circular motions when cleaning grout
- Tile adhesive & grout is hard to clean when dried
Next steps:
- Buy colored plates
- Create 3 stencils
