Hunger
This installation contains a tube, made of plastic cups, spiraling down into a hole. The tube goes through the hole on the foam core platform for the water to drain out. Decorating the platform are leftovers of food, like orange peels and grape vines. "Hunger" is an interactive art piece. When the viewer pours a cup of water into the tube and sees how it can never get full, he/she would feel the sensation of hunger. I want the audience to get a sense of the emptiness felt. I use water because my mentor once told me that when children were hungry, their mothers would tell them to drink water as a substitute for food. Water is plentiful, and for some is the only resource left.
I chose to create this piece to spread awareness to the public about the serious growing problem of hunger.
