Grief & Healing Artist Statement
Grief & Healing
This piece contains six scenes. The grief ones were drawn with charcoal and the healing ones were drawn with color pencils, chalk pastels, and charcoal. The scenes are set side by side in an order that leads from the grieving stage to the healing stage. There are three scenes to show grief and three scenes to show the healing process. I chose to create more than just two scenes because in reality, it takes a long time for someone, who has fallen very low, to recollect himself/herself and regain composure. Similar to the Hunger piece, Grief & Healing has a human essence to it. We can all relate because grieving and healing comes with life. They are emotions everyone feel at some point in their lives. The hope for this piece is for it to successfully convey feelings to viewers without it having to be as interactive as the first.
