My idea has changed a lot from my initial idea. Originally, I wanted to create an art piece that showed statistics on hunger in Massachusetts. I had trouble trying to find accurate numbers and so finally decided to create an art piece that conveys more of what hunger feels like. My new piece will be a 3D sculpture made of cups that twist in a spiral shape similar to intestines. The cups have holes at the end for the viewer to pour water down through one end to another to symbolize the stomach that can never be full. The white platform will hold eaten food. I am still debating whether to have the food be made out of artificial elements or to use real food that has been dried up. As for the water, my teacher had told me that when a child is hungry and there is no food available, the mother would usually tell the child to drink water. So water is a substance used to replace food when there is none.
So far, I had trouble with craft. The foam core was not cut very neatly and I had to sand the edges. Also, the glue gun glue used for the cups were showing. I am now trying to clean up my craft.
I am glad that you have allowed the artistic process to lead you to a project you might not have imagined at first. I am also glad to hear that you are focusing on craft. Since your piece is symbolic and relies on simple elements, the elements should not detract from the significance of the piece.
ReplyDeleteI like how you are going back and fixing and adjusting all of the things like the glue and the rough cuts on the foam core. But also the whole concept behind why you are making this piece is really awesome i like the idea and i like how you are explaining it with water and cups.

I'm happy to see that you learned from you process. I can see the transformation and potential of the work. I like the idea you have it is very cool, it looks like a fun project. I would really like to see this piece in action.
ReplyDeleteI still think you should incorporate real peels of food because you might take all your time creating the food. I think that by doing so you are going to leave out the most exiting part of your project the intestines dude I wan to see the water part I am so exited. Keep it going!!!!!!
