It's All About the Color

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted, but that doesn't mean I stopped creating work! Last year, I took a captivating course at college about color theory. I have always been extremely interested in colored media and so was thrilled when I was enrolled in a class all about it. I learned about contrasting hues; how one color could pull out the complimentary of the adjacent hue. I also learned how to create value using a color scale. A challenge for the class was not using black at all or pure white.

I will explain the images above in clock-wise order. The 1st image on top was actually a collage. The task was to create self portraits. I started off with a traditional painting of a self portrait using the American flag colors. It was plain so I cut up half of the face and pasted it on cardboard that had paint from my 1st few failed attempts. It unintentionally created a neat 3D looking effect. I enjoy staring at it at night. The image below that was another self portrait. It was inspired by Shepard Fairey's famous Obama Hope poster. I used the inverted colors of his poster and changed the word to "COLOR". By the way, that's not the color black, it's dark green Mwahahaha. The image after that was a still life painting of my balcony. It was done with red, green, and white. The challenge was not using the color that came straight out of the bottle. That's fine though, the possibilities were endless!
